This is the story of U-380, a less well-known German submarine of the Type VII-C and its crew, which was hardly noticed in the naval literature of the Second World War. Commissioned by Lieutenant Josef Röther on December 22, 1941 as a cloverleaf boat, the carrier of the German Cross in Gold U 380 led to nine enemy raids in the North Atlantic and in the Mediterranean. When Josef Röther had to give up his command for health reasons, the later bearer of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds Albrecht Brandi took the boat and led it on his tenth venture in the Mediterranean until the destruction of the boat during an Allied bombing raid on the port of Toulon on March 11, 1944. Both commanders had succeeded through clever operational thinking and seafaring skill to bring back U 380 again and again to the home base. This book not only convinces through the almost complete search of historical data and facts, but also offers tension and drama from beginning to end.
