So weit die Füße tragen [2 DVDs]
In autumn 1945, Lieutenant Clemens Forell was sent to Siberia with another 3000 German prisoners of war - for 25 years of forced labor. Only 1,200 men will survive this journey and from then on they will have to labor in inhumane conditions in a lead mine. Driven by his love for his wife and two children, Forell finally succeeds in escaping after several unsuccessful attempts. He makes his way home on foot - over 14,000 kilometers in three years. What he experiences transcends our notions of suffering: on his way through the endless Siberian icy wastes, through forests and steppes, he must live like an animal, fight wolves, become beggars, thieves and even robbers to survive. He meets time and again temporary companions - Mongolian dog breeders, prospectors, fur animals hunters, members of the Armenian resistance. Many help him, but some become a deadly danger ...
