Willi Mueller, born in 1926, volunteered for the Waffen-SS in 1943 and, after completing his basic training in Pikowitz in the Bohemian Pikowitz, experienced the fierce defensive battles on the Western Front as a member of the 17th SS Panzer Grenadier Division at the SS Pioneer Training and Replacement Battalion 2 "Götz von Berlichingen". After his wounding and the subsequent recovery process, he made his way to Saxony, where he was assigned to a Panzerjagdkommando during the last weeks of the war. The end of the war he experienced in the northern Bohemian break at the foot of the Erzgebirge, from where he began a difficult return march of about 600 kilometers to his homeland, the Hunsrück. With luck and endurance, he also survived this challenge.
