Walter Heinlein was an officer in the 2nd Panzer Division. In this book he recalls his deployment in the 74th Panzer Artillery Regiment in the years 1940-1945. Heinlein tells of his first experiences in the France and Greece campaign, he reports of years of service as a senior observer of artillery in the front line on the eastern front. In 1943 he was appointed head of a battery self-propelled type "wasp". Heinlein proved himself with her in the tank battle of Kursk and the retreat battles into the year 1944 inside. This was followed by engagement on the invasion front and the Battle of the Bulge, in the course of which he fell into Allied captivity. This book is the report of a highly decorated front-line soldier. Walter Heinlein is holder of the certificate of recognition of the Commander in Chief of the Army, bearer of the German Cross in Gold and the Ehrenblattspange. Furthermore, he was proposed for his use twice to the award of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
