Mit "Totenkopf" und "Frundsberg" an Ost- und Westfront - Kriegserlebnisse eines ehemaligen Kradmelders (Deutsch) Gebundenes Buch
The present war memoirs were not written from the perspective of a general staff. Rather, it is the honest account of a down-to-earth Swabian non-commissioned officer who volunteered for the Waffen SS at the age of 18. The multiple wounded Franz Widmann served in the ranks of the 3rd SS Panzer Division "Totenkopf" from 1940 to 1943 and from 1943 until the end of the war in the 10th SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg" on the Western and Eastern Front. After completing his training in Radolfzell, Baden, and southern France in the summer / fall of 1940, he and his comrades stormed into the ranks of the ready-to-attack Soviet Army on June 22, 1941 on the northern section of the Eastern Front on the first day of the Russian campaign. Widmann experienced and survived the breakout from the Demjansk basin, the horror of the Normandy battle and the Halbe basin. Widmann's experiences in British captivity and his encounters with the French "liberators" were similarly sobering after he returned to the French zone. Those who want to deal with the history of the Waffen SS without prejudice will not be able to avoid this book by the SS Rottenführer Widmann, who was awarded the Iron Cross of both classes, the wounded badge and the infantry tower badge. Numerous private photographs and facsimile documents published for the first time give this book documentary value.
