Die deutschen Nachkriegsverluste: Vertreibung, Zwangsarbeit, Kriegsgefangenschaft, Hunger, Stalins deutsche KZs - Gebundene Ausgabe
It was not only during the Second World War that millions of people died, the millions of deaths continued after the official end of the fighting: at least 300,000 people were murdered in Yugoslavia by the victorious Tito partisans, the Soviets abducted 600,000 forced laborers from Hungary alone, one of whom Many never saw their homeland again and deported more than a million members of Islamic Crimean peoples such as Chechens, Tartars and Kalmyks to Siberia, of whom up to 40 percent lost their lives after the “Black Book of Communism”.
These European post-war losses are also dealt with by Heinz Nawratil. The main focus, however, is on the German victims among prisoners of war, displaced persons and those deported to forced labor. The consequences of the invasion of the Red Army in central Germany and Austria and the concentration camps in the Soviet zone of occupation are also dealt with.
Nawratil provides well documented facts about these processes in a short and clear form. In his book, which was first published in 1982, the author has now incorporated more recent research results, such as the work of James Bacque on the Allies' hunger policy after 1945.
