Léon Degrelle: Die verlorene Legion - Buch
The Walloon Legion and the SS Division "Wallonia" in combat. SS-Standartenführer and Eichenlaubträger
The Walloon - former political leader of the Rexists in the Belgian part of Wallonia - described the march together with German associations into Russia, across the Dniester and Dnieper, via Donets and Don to the Kuban and into the mountains of the Caucasus. He describes the motivation and goals of European volunteers in the fight against culture-destroying Stalinism. These young men wanted to ward off the communist threat to the continent, and through their commitment, to secure a say in the construction of the new Europe. The stormy advance until 1942 is followed by the tough defense struggle for Kharkov, Kiev, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy and Dorpat. The author, who moves with his men from the army to the Waffen-SS, initially serves in the Walloon Legion, in which - remodeled into an SS storm brigade - Degrelle assumes leadership roles and the fall of 1944 to the 28th SS Volunteer Panzergrenadier Division "Wallonia" is reorganized. Degrelle becomes her commander and fights in Pomerania and around the Oderbrückenkopf of Szczecin. In a final attack, many villages can be liberated by the Red Army and the withdrawal of civilians to the saving west organized. The division makes its way to Schleswig-Holstein. Degrelle, on whose capture the Belgian state has exposed a bounty, sets off via Denmark to Norway and reaches on May 7, 1945 from Oslo with a Heinkel He 111 to 2,100 kilometers Spain, where the machine is notlandet because of fuel shortage.
