U 79 - Das Kriegstagebuch - Die Geschichte eines deutschen Unterseebootes im Zweiten Weltkrieg
This is the story of U 79 and its men, a lesser known and poorly treated German Type VII-C submarine. U 79, which was commissioned in March 1941 by Lieutenant Wolfgang Kaufmann, a son of the city of Würzburg, lost after only a few months - in December 1941 - on his fifth mission in the Mediterranean. The entire crew was rescued and captured by British naval forces. So she did not share the fate of the approximately 30,000 submarine soldiers who died in the sea. The U 79 documentation and its five enemy raids are mainly based on the war diary of the boat, which fortunately has been preserved. There are also eyewitness accounts of survivors who contributed to the creation of this work through their contributions. The book contains numerous unpublished photos, maps and resumes of U 79 officers and men. Hardcover: 312 pages Language: German Size and / or weight: 18.2 x 3 x 25 cm
