Initially deployed as the 1st watch officer on U 23, Adalbert Schnee also experienced the onset of World War II and his first five enemy raids on this submarine, before being assigned his first own command with U 6 on January 30, 1940 In July 1940, the command of U 60, a 750-tU boat, followed. With the latter he succeeded on a total of three enemy raids in the North Atlantic sinking two merchant ships. After a short break, he spent as a representative commander on U 121, a school submarine Type IIB, he was able to put on January 25, 1941 U 201, the first submarines of the new type VIIC in service. Promoted to lieutenant commander on March 1, 1942, Adalbert Schnee was able to increase his sinking success to over 95,000 gross registered tons with U 201 until August 24, 1942, for a total of seven enemy raids in the Atlantic. As the 105th bearer, he was awarded the Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 15 July 1942, which he had already received on 30 August 1941.

After the submission of the command of U-201 more than two years should pass before Adelbert snow should again set sail with a submarine, because on October 26, 1942, he was as Admiralstabsoffizier at the BDU and later speaker in the High Command of the Navy. On December 1, 1944, promoted to Lieutenant Commander, shortly before the end of the war, Snow took command of U-2511, a new-XXI boat, for a final patrol, returning after surrender and captive with his crew.
