The highly decorated eyewitness Heinrich Springer described in his records an unprecedented wealth of experience: schooling in the Weimar Republic, HJ leader, RAD, troops disposal, Junker school, front operations, Knight's Cross and Golden Wound Badge, Fiihrer Headquarters, liaison officer in the OKW, invasion front, Ardennes offensive, prisoner of war, flight, Victor justice, homecoming and family. Springer died in October 2007.

Springer participated in the Western campaign 1940, Balkan campaign 1941, Barbarossa 1941, Rostov-on-Don 1942, at the Battle of Kharkov 1943, with the 12th SSH in Normandy 1944.
On August 30, 1944, he was Field Marshal Walter Model, Commander in Chief of Army Group B, until February 4, 1945 as First Ordonnanzoffizier (O1) assumed. As such, he took part in the battles for Operation Market Garden at Arnhem and on the Battle of the Bulge. On February 6, 1945, he was then First Ordonnanzoffizier of the Commander in Chief of the Army Group Vistula under Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. On 27 May 1945 he was taken prisoner by the British.

Heinrich "Hein" Adolf Leopold Springer, November 3, 1914 in Kiel - October 27, 2007 in Oelixdorf, was a German SS officer, most recently SS Sturmbannführer of the Waffen-SS and Knightcross roster in World War II as well as a victim of the Siegerjustiz and engineer in the postwar period.
