Walter Heinlein was an officer in the 2nd Panzer Division. In this book he recalls his deployment in the 74th Panzer Artillery Regiment in the years 1940-1945. Heinlein tells of his first experiences in the France and Greece campaign, he reports of years of service as a senior observer of artillery in the front line on the eastern front. In 1943 he was appointed head of a battery self-propelled type "wasp". Heinlein proved himself with her in the tank battle of Kursk and the retreat battles into the year 1944 inside.
