Dieter Peeters is one of the last survivors of Stalingrad. He describes the weeks in the hell of the boiler from the perspective of a simple soldier. After being captured in January 1943, he, like tens of thousands of others, is considered "missing in Stalingrad". He goes through horror in a death camp and six long years in a penal camp in the Urals. In 1949 he returns home to Germany. His unadorned memories are a document of suffering. They are supplemented by almost 30 authentic photos Peeters encountered in December 2004 in a private antique shop. Dieter Peeters, born 1921 in Duisburg, childhood and youth in Düsseldorf. Humanistisches Gymnasium, training as a stainless steel merchant, because of conscription for military service in 1940 but prematurely canceled. From June 1941 deployment on the eastern front, in November 1942 Einkesselung in Stalingrad. Device in Russian captivity in January 1943, from which he returned only in April 1949. After returning home completion of training and promotion to sales manager in a major stainless steel company. Retired since 1983. Dieter Peeters lives in Dusseldorf today.
