Drama zwischen Budapest und Wien - Buch
Final battle of the 6th SS Panzer Army 1945 736 p., many b/w. Fig. and colored maps, in atlas large format. The last major German offensive of the Second World War was directed against Budapest in the spring of 1945. The Hungarian capital, surrounded by the Red Army, was to be liberated. The extraordinary importance of this operation is evidenced by the presence of six (!) of the seven Panzer Divisions of the Waffen-SS in this theater of war. The Soviet troops were to be repelled in the formation of the 6th Panzer Army led by SS-Oberst-Gruppenführer Sepp Dietrich, in order to then provide the German armored formations for the defense of the Reich capital Berlin. The book, which has been out of print for a long time, contains a detailed description of the events of the war. For this purpose, the author, the former 1st General Staff Officer of the 6th Panzer Army, evaluated extensive archive material, orders, war diaries and eyewitness reports. He describes the deployment, the attack and the retreat battles of the deployed units up to the Battle of Vienna. Many black-and-white photos and colored maps illustrate the opulent work. The appendix contains informative archive material, an explanation of tactical signals and rank comparisons. Troop, map and location registers open up the work.
