Although motorcycle construction experienced its first boom at the beginning of the 20th century, the motorcycle began to establish itself slowly during the First World War in the troupe. In the Weimar Republic, the Reichswehr then increasingly put Kradschützen units on heavy motorcycles in service. It was not until 1938 that BMW and Zündapp started to develop so-called heavy duty wheels with off-road reduction, reverse gear and sidecar drive. After the war, mainly two-stroke engines were used. Frank Rönicke documents in this volume the development of German military motorcycles since 1905.
