The Wehrmacht moved into the Second World War with a myriad of horses, wagons, tanks and trucks. But since there was never enough to replace the failures, or even to increase the degree of motorization, the trucks were considered a weak point of the army. And because suitable material was scarce, regardless of their suitability, they resorted to all kinds of civilian vehicles. This resulted in a smorgasbord of vehicles and brands, which were also largely taken over by the Wehrmacht. The army is said to have used over 1000 vehicle types - Werner Oswald portrays the most important of them in this book.
