Als Panzerschütze beim Deutschen Afrika Korps 1941-1943 - Ein 17-jähriger Kriegsfreiwilliger
in the Reconnaissance Company (mot.) 580 - Hardcover Book Otto Henning joined the Panzertruppe in August 1941 as a 17-year-old war volunteer. He first witnessed the war in North Africa until April 1943, first as a report driver, then as a tank gunner in an armored reconnaissance detachment. From a simple soldier's point of view, he describes his time as a soldier based on his notes and his unique, previously unpublished photos, starting with his training in Stahnsdorf and the transport over Italy to North Africa. There he encounters the horror of war, where in the fighting for El Alamein also his commander Captain Friedrich von Homeyer falls in the shell fire of enemy artillery. He is retreating to Tunisia and Otto Henning can return to Germany before the end of Army Group Africa. The impressive report and the 64-page image section make the book a unique time document on the lives of soldiers beyond propagated heroism. The revised edition has been significantly expanded by the author.
