After bricklayer teaching and Reichsarbeitsdienst, the author, born in Essen in 1926, volunteered for the Waffen-SS, to which he was drafted in February 1944 to München-Freimann. As an SS tank reconnaissance officer, he joins the 11th SS Volunteer Infantry Division "Nordland" and is deployed in the Narva area. He participates in the retreat battles in Estonia, where he is wounded and transferred across the Baltic Sea to a home hospital. As a seriously wounded man in April 1945 in US captivity, he enters a long odyssey through Allied camps in Germany, Belgium and France, until he finally sees freedom again in July 1946. 208 p., Many b / w.
