„Leibstandarte“ in Griechenland - Das I. Bataillon im Unternehmen „Marita“ 1941 - Buch
The extraordinary publication is based on two photo albums from the Balkan campaign in 1941 of the SS KriegsberichterKompanie under the command of Gunter d'Alquen, which only came in 2004 to the light of the public. Originally both volumes belonged to the archive of the Leibstandarte in Berlin-Lichterfelde. The photos shown here are of outstanding quality and give intimate insights into the stormy happenings. The viewer sees soldiers on rail transport, crossing rivers, bivouacs, firing positions, fighting, parades and religious ceremonies. The photos show dusty motorcycle detectors on their machines, pioneers in bridge construction, gunners at the 3.7 cm pak, assault guns in the field and on the road, soldiers embarking on fishing boats and visiting the Acropolis in Athens. One recognizes numerous highly distinguished SS leaders, including the commander Sepp Dietrich, "Panzermeyer" Kurt Meyer, Fritz Witt, Richard Schulze-Kossens. Each of the photos presented is accompanied by a detailed caption explaining the scenery. In a short introduction, the course of the Balkan campaign and the proportion of the "Leibstandarte" in the company will be appreciated.
